Visit to The Royal Blackheath Golf Club (Eltham Lodge) and Museum
Eltham Lodge was built in 1664 for Sir John Shaw by the architect Hugh May, who was one of the pioneers of the new Franco-Dutch style which created a compact and commodious house plan. Eltham remained in the possession of the Shaw family until 1820 and in 1889 it became the club-house for the Eltham Golf Club. It now houses the Royal Blackheath Golf Club which has preserved and restored the fine seventeenth-century interiors.

Visit to the Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich
The magnificent buildings at Greenwich, designed as a hospital for disabled seamen on the orders of Mary II in 1692, are the work of Sir Christopher Wren with Nicholas Hawksmoor acting as his clerk of works. The Great Hall was enriched by Sir James Thornhill in 1708 with his celebrated ceiling representing William and Mary handing peace to Europe. The chapel was gutted by fire in 1779 and was replaced by one designed by James Stuart with a splendid neo-classical interior. |
