‘Sparkling and pleasant’: Portraits and People in the Age of Elizabeth I
Karen Hearn, Honorary Professor, University College London
Visit to the exhibition Elizabeth I and her People at the National Portrait Gallery
This fascinating exhibition brings the Elizabethan age to life through portraits not only of the Queen and her courtiers but also the lesser-known images of Elizabethan merchants, lawyers, goldsmiths, butchers, playwrights and artists. These portraits will be shown alongside artefacts from the period, including jewellery, books and coins, giving a rare glimpse into their lives.
