Visit to the exhibition Masterpieces of Chinese Painting 700–1900 at the Victoria & Albert Museum

This splendid exhibition will bring together the finest examples of Chinese painting over a twelve hundred year period, many being exhibited here for the first time. From small-scale intimate works by monks and literati through to scroll paintings over fourteen metres long, it will chart the evolving styles and subjects which include figure paintings on silk, landscape painting and the introduction of Western influences. It will look at the constant interplay between tradition and innovation and consider the settings for which they were made — temples, palaces, domestic houses and private gardens.
