Studies in Art was set up in 1998 to provide short but in-depth
courses for those who have limited free time. A range of subjects
in the fine and decorative arts are set within a social and historical
context and brought to life by specialists from many fields.
The four or five day courses are run on consecutive Tuesdays in
the Autumn and Spring and include lunch. They are held in the handsome
premises of the Medical Society of London in Chandos Street, off
Cavendish Square. Four courses are held each year, and participants
enjoy a rich variety of speakers and subjects in an intimate and
scholarly atmosphere.
Recent courses have included:
Lord Burlington: Architect, Patron and Connoisseur
Leonardo in Milan
Jan Gossaert and the Netherlandish Renaissance
Plantagenet England
Anglo-Saxon England
Russia: History, Art and Culture
Renaissance Italy: Society and the Arts
Horace Walpole and the Gothic Taste
