Dutch Art and Culture in the Seventeenth Century

The golden age of Dutch art was remarkable for its innovation, diversity and specialization and relates directly to the commercial prosperity and unique character of the new Dutch state, the United Netherlands.

This course will look at the social changes that accompanied the foundation of the new republic, the character of Dutch society, and the extraordinary outpouring of artistic talent.
