The Arts of India: From the Mughals to the British
Raj
Indian culture has been moulded by a succession of foreign invaders
over the centuries. This course will look at the founding of the
Mughal Dynasty in Northern India in the early sixteenth century
and the extraordinary patronage of the great emperors from Akbar
to Shah Jahan, the contrasting Hindu empires of Southern India,
the impact of the East India Company and the establishment of the
British Raj in the nineteenth century.
