Napoleon and Josephine

This course will look at the epic of Napoleon’s rise and fall and the role of Josephine as a patron of the arts and leader of fashion. It will also explore the development of the Consulate and Empire styles, the brilliance of the architects and interior designers, Percier and Fontaine, the revival of the luxury arts in France, and the heroic images created by David and Canova.
