Visit to the Royal Opera House

The Royal Opera House is the third theatre on the Covent Garden site. Its rich history dates  back to the time of the actor manager, John Rich who built the first  Theatre Royal which opened in 1732.  The present building, begun in 1857, was designed by Edward Middleton Barry and became the Royal Opera House in 1892. In 1997 the auditorium and foyer spaces were restored to their former glory whilst the remainder of the site was redeveloped to create a series of new facilities.
