Visit to the exhibition  William Kent: Designing Georgian Britain at the Victoria & Albert Museum

William Kent’s journey from joiner’s son to arbiter of taste and confident and friend of patrons, such as Lord Burlington and Thomas Coke, Earl of Leicester, is an extraordinary one. His genius for design is seen in his painted decoration, sculpture, architecture, furniture, metalwork, book illustration, costume and perhaps above all in his landscape gardens. This splendid exhibition reveals Kent’s role in the transformation of taste that occurred with the Hanoverian succession in 1714.
