This remarkable exhibition traces Aphrodite’s journey and transformations from her origins in ancient Cyprus to the present day. With exceptional loans of paintings and sculpture including the Crouching Aphrodite from the Royal Collection, a Capitoline Venus from the Louvre, and Botticelli’s Venus from Berlin together with ancient vases, jewellery and other spectacular antiquities, the exhibition explores the myths which made the goddess so famous, written the great authors and poets of the ancient world.
