A detail from the salon at the Belvédère du Petit Trianon with arabesques painted in oils by
       Sébastien-François Leriche
Details
The lecture will explore Marie Antoinette’s taste in the decoration and furnishing of both her public and private apartments at Versailles and the Petit Trianon. She created refined and intimate interiors with fine panelling decorated with flowers, arabesques and other classical motifs, including masks, urns and laurel leaves, painted in the newly fashionable pastel colours of pale blues, pinks or greens. Her taste for luxury can be seen in the boudoir decorated for her by the Rousseau brothers at the Chateau de Fontainbleau in 1786 and her acquisition of the most refined furniture, objets d’arts and porcelain. Her love of flowers and the pursuit of a simple pastoral life at the Petit Trianon were of widespread influence and inspiration.
