Trent Park combines 1930s glamour with extraordinary wartime secrets. Extensively remodelling Trent Park from 1925, Sir Philip Sassoon created a series of fashionable reception rooms where he entertained royalty, politicians and film stars in the 1930s. During the Second World War the house was used to accommodate high-ranking German officers and generals whilst, at the same time, secretly becoming one of the most important intelligence centres in England.

This special visit to the newly-opened Trent Park will explore the fascinating history of the house. The meticulously restored reception rooms, with their fine marble fireplaces, Chinese wallpapers and murals by Rex Whistler are furnished with some of Sir Philip Sassoon’s original furniture and paintings. In contrast, the basement, set up in December 1939 with a newly-installed secret bugging system, has been faithfully recreated with the technical equipment that was used to listen, record and document the conversations of high-ranking German prisoners-of-war upstairs.
